The Hillsborough County School District consists of 243 public schools serving students in grades K-12. The district includes 139 elementary schools, 43 middle schools, 2 K-8 schools, 4 career centers, 4 career and technical centers, and 60 additional centers for Charter programs, Early Childhood Education, and ESE programs. Founded in 1956, the University of South Florida was the first public university built specifically to meet the needs of Florida’s growing urban areas.
